Sylver Ochoa withstood a fierce comeback from the one-loss side by Rafael Martinez to take the 2010 T-Town One-Pocket Classic, which drew 42 players to Magoo’s in Tulsa, OK on the weekend of February 4-7. Ochoa gave up as many games in the finals versus Martinez in the $12,000-added event, as he’d given up in the entire tournament since it began on Thursday.

By Saturday night, the tournament was down to its final six players with Ochoa scheduled to meet Scott Frost in the hot seat match on Sunday. The battles to determine the quarterfinalists - Joey Gray versus Jeremy Jones and Martinez versus James Walden - were set to start the day’s action. Ochoa shut Frost out to gain the hot seat and then watched as Martinez fought his way back.

Martinez had opened his tournament bid with victories over Jason Chance and Keebie Fleniken before being shut out by Magoo’s house pro, Gabe Owen. Owen would join him on the one-loss side in the very next round, falling to Frost. Martinez then commenced a seven-match journey back to the finals, surviving two double hill matches to get there. He defeated Jim McDermott and then, Jeff Melton, both 4-1, to secure a spot in the money rounds and then sent Earl Strickland home 4-1, as well. He then survived a hill-hill battle against Chip Compton, who’d won the event’s Friday night ring game and met up with  Walden, coming over from the winners’ side final four. Gray was set to face Jones.

Jones and Martinez advanced with identical 4-1 victories over Gray and Walden, after which Martinez dropped Jones into fourth place, also 4-1. Frost put up a fight in the semifinals that followed, battling to double hill, but Martinez hung on to win and got his chance at Ochoa. Extended to five games, Ochoa closed out the tournament with a 5-3 win.
