Shot #19 The Pyramid Puzzle (solution)

By Chef Anton

Secret:

While most people would assume to pocket the 9-ball you should just split the 1-ball and 2-ball, that is not the case. It is nearly impossible for even the most skilled player to simultaneously hit both balls. Instead, you must glance the 1-ball from a shallow angle.

Execution:

Place the cueball as diagrammed. Glance the right side of the 1-ball causing the 9-ball to move slightly to the right in front of the 2-ball. Then, as the cueball hits the 2-ball, the relocated 9-ball will be knocked into the side pocket.

Trick of the Trade

Although this shot may seem simple, it is not. You must hit the 1-ball extremely thin. The entire shot will occur instantaneously leaving your opponent clueless. I know I was.

Happy Hustling

Win a FREE Pool Hustler's Handbook

I need your help. I am in search of learning every billiard brain teaser in existence. For example, the oldest pool billiard brain teaser known to man is where the three ball are balanced on the end rail in a pyramid configuration, and you bet your mark you can hit the other two balls first. This is exactly what I am interested in finding.

So if you know any hustles, even if they do not apply to pool, send it to me immediately. I will give an autographed copy of The Pool Hustler's Handbook for every billiard brain teaser sent to me that I have not seen before. If you are not sure if I have seen it or not, send it anyway. Please e-mail me at Column@ChefAnton.com or mail your entries to:

“Dead Stroke” vs. “In Stroke”
Once in a while, and always unexpectedly, I experience being in “dead stroke.”
What Are The Differences In Pool Balls?
Yes, there are definitely differences in not only the brands of pool balls on the market, but also in the styles offered by the single leading brand.
90° and 30° Rule Review
This article summarizes my previous six articles dealing with the 90° and 30° rules. Hopefully, by seeing all of the results in one place, knowing when and how to apply each rule will become clearer.
Breaking To Win
When most amateur's break, they try to smash the cue ball as hard as they can and watch the eight ball to see if it is going in a pocket...
“Pro-Cut” Pockets: Does Tight Make Right?
The term “pro-cut pockets” has been floating around for a while now.
