Rookie of the Year

Who can forget Earl forfeiting his match in the finals at the Camel Pro Billiard Series in the Milwaukee event in October? Although people are talking about Earl walking out, what they should be talking about is Corey Deuel's first professional win at the age of 21! Corey began playing in the Camel Pro Billiard Series this year, because he was finally eligible age-wise. He was the topic of conversation among the professional pool players before he was eligible, because his peers knew he would be a force to contend with, in the professional tournaments that they knew he was going to enter and possibly win.

Corey Deuel began playing pool at the age of 13, playing every day at a local pool hall. Not only did Corey Deuel from West Jefferson, OH win the Rookie of the Year Award from the AZBilliards Player's Choice Awards, he almost won Best Break, also! His high place finishes in the Camel Pro Billiard Series has won him much attention and his first place finish at the Milwaukee Event in October not only showed his style, but his calm demeanor. Although some people think he might be a little arrogant at times, he remained calm and cool as Earl Strickland complained of racks in the finals and showed his soft demure as Earl walked off. A nice guy with a mean game, with three top-ten finishes on his first year as a professional, Corey is currently ranked number 9 on the Camel Pro Billiard Series!

We reached Corey at Cornfed Reds in Columbus Ohio, while he was en-route to winning his second Season Finale win on the Viking 9-Ball Tour, to get his comments on winning this award. He said that, while he was a little disappointed he didn't win in any of the other categories, he was still "kickin' it" and would be in Denver to try to make one more run on the Camel Pro Billiards Series points list.
