Scott Smith breathed a bit of the “BIG TIME” into the Arizona State 9-Ball Championship Saturday and Sunday. He treated the ladies to the little niceties that the pros enjoy – a short bio when their matches are called, putting their nameplates up at the designated tables and generally making each match special. Thank you, Scott.

Saturday started with 36 brave women, 2 of whom are new members – Christy Goldsmith (finishing 9-12th) and Becky Garner. The usual suspects finished in the top eight spots to come back on Sunday to do battle.

Pooch’s Easy Street provided the comfortable ambiance that Tom and Donna Ferris are noted for. The food was good as usual. Thank you, Tom, Donna and staff, for hosting the Sate 9-Ball Championship.

The 9-ball break contest drew a considerable number of participants, as the grand prize was a Joss cue valued at $690, won by “Prescott” Tom Schmitt. Tom’s C Series McDemott cue with green points, white butt with elongated white ovals inlayed and 4 green shamrocks in white ovals, leather wrap and natural birdseye maple was recently stolen. Keep your eyes open for it!!

The 2nd Chance Tournament hosted 20 players, with the top four places as follows:

Special congratulations are in order for Angel Paglia for winning the AWBT Arizona 9-Ball Championship for the third consecutive time. Angel made her run at this third title completely from the winner’s side.
