Clayton and Fratini win AWBT Scotch Fundraiser

Time Out Lounge in Tempe was the hot spot to be on Saturday, February 19th! 29 teams came out to compete in the AWBT's Annual Scotch Doubles Fundraiser! It was biggest turnout ever for this event! Because of the number of teams, the AWBT was able to pay the top 6 spots! That's amazing!

Team Diana Clayton & Louie Fratini were definitely a force to be reckoned with! They made it all the way through their tough bracket without a scratch. They met up with last year's champs, team Meiko Yamanobe / Jimmy Mendoza for the hot seat match. Diana & Louie beat Meiko & Jimmy 2 to 0, winning the hot seat and sending Meiko & Jimmy to the B-side. While Diana & Louie waited patiently for an opposing team, another dominating team was making their way through the competition! Team Tami Breuninger / Doc Rice had beat some tough teams in their bracket and had to play Meiko & Jimmy for 3rd place in order to get the chance at the final. Tammy & Doc beat Meiko & Jimmy 2 to 1, denying them of a repeat championship and sending them home in 3rd place with $121 in prize money.

The final match started and since it was a true double elimination format, Tami & Doc would have to beat Diana & Louie in 2 sets of races to 2 and for awhile, it looked like that was exactly what they were going to do! Tami & Doc easily beat Diana and Louie in the first set 2 to 0. But, it aint over until it's over, and Diana & Louie came back and beat Tami and Doc 2 to 1 the second set, making Diana & Louie the champs! Tami and Doc finished an admirable 2nd place with $202 in prize money. Congratulations to Diana & Louie for 1st place and $308 in prize money! They are an awesome team and a pleasure to watch shoot!

Of course it would not have been the annual scotch doubles fundraiser without the annual crock-pot contest! There were 7 delicious entrants! The contest brought in a total of $92! $69 will go to the AWBT fund, and $23 went to the winner which was the Meatballs made by Dawn Anderson! 2nd place as Barbara Allen's Green Chili and 3rd place was Laura Kelly-Phillip's Chili! A BIG HUGE thank you goes out to all of you who brought in the competing dishes and to all of you who donated money for tastes!

We also had our very first TEAGUE CUSTOM CUE to raffle off! This cue was BEAUTIFUL! It was valued at $600! Dale had made this cue specifically to give to us for our raffle, and he signed it which will make it even more valuable as a collector's edition! The winner of the cue was Holly Bautch from Phoenix! Congratulations Holly! We hope you have many wonderful years with it! The AWBT raised $210 from this raffle which will go into the AWBT fund.

One last going's on was the side pot contest! We had 22 teams chip in $5 for the side pot for a total of $110. ? of the pot raised ($27.50) will be donated to the Sojourner Women's Center - we will be taking them a check in June when we make our next donation drop off. The other ? of the pot raised ($82.50) went to the last team standing that paid for the $5 side pot, which turned out to be our first place finishing team, Diana & Louie! Congratulations you two! Thanks to everyone who put in for this side pot!
