Season Opener Pappy’s Event

January 17 & 18, 2004

Pappy’s hosted a $500.00 added 8-ball, bar box event for the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour over the Martin Luther King , Jr. holiday weekend. A huge thank you to Pappy’s, for welcoming us back again. The ladies always enjoy themselves with such great tables, food and service.

33 ladies were in attendance as the day began Saturday afternoon, including four new members and a few we hadn’t seen for quite a while. The AWBT saw some new names and new members taking home the “W’s” this tournament. It looks as if it will be an exciting 9th season for the members.

The final eight ladies were as follows: Liz Bernreuter, Diana Clayton, Tracey Elliott, Anne Gray, Katie Gray, Justine Karber, Jodie Villegas, and Meiko Yamanobe. As Liz and Diana took a 7th/8th place finish, the next matches found Tracey and Justine following in 5th/6th. Jodie and Anne battled it out and Jodie continued her quest leaving Anne in 4th place. Then Jodie was stopped by Katie, who wanted a shot at the hot-seat holder. Meiko was sitting pretty comfortable in the hot-seat, since our tournaments follow a true double-elimination format, until Katie, a BCA league-guru, handed out a double dose of good pool. Congratulations to Katie Gray on her first AWBT win and to all the ladies who played well at the Season Opener.

    In the second chance event held at Pappy’s, the following members showed their skills:

    Susan Williams took first place, defeating Noel Stem in the final match. Also placing in the money was Natalie Hostler, taking 3rd place.
