Season Finale
Mello’s Come Back for Title
The season finale of Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour, presented by J. Pechauer Custom Cues, started out in full force as 27 players turned out to battle for the qualifier spot at Pockets in Tucson on June 28, 2003.
Claiming another title for the season was Susan Mello, moving right along the winner’s side with only one loss in the semi finals. Mello came back to win the event by impressive wins against our current State Champion, Angelina Paglia, and Tucson’s own, Anne Gray, who she had to defeat twice in a true double elimination format finals. Excellent performance from Anne Gray earned her a second place finish and a spot in the WPBA (Canadian Classics), since her opponent was already qualified for the event. Overcoming their early losses in the first and second rounds, Angelina Paglia and Susan Williams both finished strong in third and fourth places, respectively.
In the Second Chance event, a Tucson native, Tracey Elliott, came ahead with straight wins through the winner’s bracket. A great showing for Meiko Yamanobe, she finished second, after defeating Elliott in the first set of the finals. Outstanding performances from Margie Stephanik and Barbara Allen earned them third and fourth place finishes, respectively.
An exciting break contest at the event provided a fund raising opportunity for AWBT and brought a Pechauer Custom Cue into the lucky hands of Chad Hoppe. Thanks to our participants, AWBT was able to raise $370 toward the Points Fund to be distributed among the members with qualified points at the end of the season. Additional prizes were won by both members and spectators, including a J Pechauer Custom Cue, a Glenn Bond instructional video, and a Stick-em-up cue holder.
AWBT would like to thank Pechauer Custom Cues, Lenny and the excellent staff members at Pockets, and our sponsors for their continuous and generous support this season. Congratulations to all the participants for a great season finale!
