The Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour “Season VIII” finale held at Sixshooters gave the ladies a chance to spread their wings. There’s so much room there. Taking up some of that space were 27 ladies from the AWBT. There were two obvious upsets on day one of the tournament. Two top seeded AWBT ladies were sent into the one-loss bracket in the very first round: Susan Mello and Angel Paglia. Susan Mello, the 2003 points leader, succumbed to Liz Bernreuter and Angel Paglia to Christy Goldsmith. So now we know… they are human and they too can lose a match!

As Saturday concluded, Angel remained in the top 8 along with Justine Karber, Susan Williams and Martha Zanetis. On the winner’s side were: Liz Bernreuter, Christy Goldsmith, Tracey Elliott and Anne Gray.

On Sunday the following ladies matched up in the first round from the winner’s side; Tracey vs. Anne and Liz vs. Christy. Christy and Tracey both walked away with wins (7-2). On the one-loss side it was Justine vs. Martha and Angel vs. Susan. Justine pulled out the hill/hill match against Martha, while Angel stole the win from Susan (7-1). The next round pitted, Liz vs. Justine and Anne vs. Angel. Liz and Angel both won (7-3). Liz vs. Angel and the hot seat match Tracey vs. Christy were the next match-ups. Liz took a 4th place finish as Christy readied for a match against Angel. Angel won (7-1).

The last match of the day was Tracey vs. Angel. Actually it wasn’t the last match. Since, ours is a true double elimination event and Angel won the first set (7-4), they had to play again. Angel, who is so close to being a touring pro on the WPBA circuit, showed her talents and did a double dip taking home the win (7-3). Congratulations on a fine tournament finish Angel.

Many thanks, to all of the staff at Sixshooters, for making our weekend so flawless. Everything from the exceptional equipment (newly recovered tables) to the customer service (keeping our drinks full) will keep them coming back for more. Thank you for having us.
