Coors Light Qualifier
Main Street Billiards
In Tucson on Oct 11-12, 2003

It was a beautiful sunny day in Tucson, Arizona when any outdoor activity would be welcomed, but a “Coors Light Qualifier” brought the ladies indoors to Main Street Billiards. The winner of the event would receive paid entry into the “Cuetec Cues National Championship” to be held in Lincoln City, OR. What a deal this Qualifier was,active members only had to pay $25.00, thanks to Coors Light, who sponsored the qualifier spot!! There was also $500.00 cash added to the event by host Main Street Billiards!

The doors opened for the eager gals at 10:00 am. As the competitors began filtering in, you could feel the tense excitement in the air. More than half of the gals had traveled to the event from out of town. By the end of Saturday, the top 8 ladies were revealed: on the winner’s side; Christie Goldsmith, Angel Paglia, Susan Mello, and Martha Zanetis: on the one-loss side; Tracey Elliott, Marissa Hallett, Olivia Jackson, and Susan Williams.

Tracey, who calls Main Street her home turf, found herself in two tough matches before finding her way to the top 8. She was on the winner’s side when she met up with Angel. She and Angel played a grueling match…Angel came out victorious with a 7-6 win. Tracey’s next match was against Jeri Engh who flew in for this event. Jeri and Tracey dueled it out until Tracey edged out a 7-6 win. Tracey played two back-to-back hill/hill matches. On Sunday she finished in the 7/8th spot. As Tracey seasons herself, expect to see many top 8 finishes from this straight shooter.

On Sunday, play was intensified as the crowd looked on and cheered for their favorite player and for the fabulous play going on. In the first round Christie, Mello, Marissa and Williams won, giving Olivia and Tracey 7/8th place. Martha and Angel moved to the one-loss side. In the next round: Angel and Williams met up along with Marissa and Martha. Angel and Marissa both won (7-2). Williams and Martha received 5/6th place. Up next to play, for the “hotseat”, Christie and Mello. Mello won 7-4. Christie moved to the one-loss side. She was guaranteed 3rd. Her next match would also determine who would get the paid spot to Nationals! Mello already had a spot to Nationals based on her performance this year on the AWBT. Christie had to wait for one more match to finish out though. Angel and Marissa played to determine 4th place. Marissa received congratulations for that finish and well wishes on a safe drive back to New Mexico.

The semi-final match was on…Angel and Christie sure made it exciting for the spectators, taking the match all the way to the hill. Angel won, guaranteeing her paid entry into the National Championship! There was one match left to determine the winner of the tournament. Angel won the first match, and since it was a true double elimination format, they set out to play again. Angel was again victorious. WOW! Results:
