MAIN STREET BILLIARDS/MESA 3rd TOUR STOP OF SEASON VII

Main Street Billiards in Mesa hosted 29 ladies on the 3rd Tour Stop of Season VII, vying for a WPBA qualifier. For those of you not familiar with the layout of Main Street Billiards, it is an ideal forum for tournaments. Thank you Olivia and Bob Jackson for graciously hosting the tournament.

After the draw was completed, the ladies settled in for some very competitive pool playing, with more than half the matches going to the hill. Nina Tagley ruled from the A-side with five wins, meeting Susan Mello in the final match for first place. But, before Susan could get there, though, it was a shoot-out between Susan and Olivia for the B-side “hot seat” as Olivia had earlier in the day put Susan on the B-side.

The payouts were: 1st: Nina Tagley ($314); 2nd: Susan Mello ($213); 3rd: Olivia Jackson ($157); 4th: Angel Paglia ($112); 5th/6th: Tony Officer and Mary Moench ($73 each); 7th/8th: Martha Zanetis and Debbie Straatmeyer ($45 each); 9th/12th: Meiko Yamanobe, Diana Clayton, Susan Williams and Madelyn Roberts ($22 each).

Of the 29 "starters" on Saturday, 13 came back for the Second Chance tournament, together with the 8 in the Main Event, for a total of 21 ladies back on Sunday. The Second Chance Tournament, like the Main Event, was competitive and at the end of the day Marita Incalcaterra was the winner ($57.75), Yevette Johnson took second ($31.50) and Susan Williams took third ($15.75). The final match for first place in the Second Chance Tournament went to the second set in order to determine the winner.

A very successful 9-ball break contest was conducted throughout the 2-day tournament and numerous prizes were awarded. Josh Larson won the grand prize of a 50/50 split of the money collected for the break contest. Congratulations to all the contest winners and especially big thanks for supporting the AWBT by participating in the break contest!

Our most hearty thanks to Olivia and Bob Jackson and their crew at Main Street Billiards/Mesa for a most enjoyable tournament facility in lending itself to the tournament being able to be efficiently conducted. It was a great tournament at a great facility.
