The AWBT hosted it’s annual member/non-member Scotch Doubles fundraiser on Saturday, February 15th at Time Out Lounge. Special thanks to Ed and Laura Kelley-Phillips for being such wonderful hosts, and for the added $250.00 prize money. Laura and Ed also donated two Time Out Lounge T-shirts that were given to the 5/6th place teams, Meiko Yamanobe/Jimmy Mendoza and Cheryl Walters/Randy Griff. (Thanks also to Cathy Kelley for helping to run the tournament board.)

The new nine-ball format drew nineteen couples to compete for their share of the prize. The tournament ran smoothly, with a race to four on the winners’ side and a race to three on the one-loss side. With some surprising turns of events and interesting draw, last year’s champions, Tracey and Jeff Thomas found themselves on the one-loss side early, but fought their way to claim fourth place. Liz Bernreuter and partner Tami escaped a few nail-biters to arrive at the hot-seat match, but couldn’t keep it going past third place as they fell to Diana Clayton and her partner Louie, and subsequently to Marney and Dale Teague.

The tournament came down to Diana and Louie versus Marney and Dale. As has been the trend this season, the finals went into a second round, as Marney and Dale defeated the hot-seat holders in round one. Determined as ever, Diana and her partner forged through the second match, and emerged victorious.

Thanks to everyone who brought a delicious dish to feed the hungry participants. (Thanks also to the anonymous cookie donor!) Congratulations goes to our newest member, Su Carter, who took home the crock=pot grand prize.
