More than 35 player members came out to support the first tour stop of the Arizona Women's Billiard Tour Spring 2000 season. This prestigious event was held at Pinke's on 32nd St and Bell. Over $1,200 was paid out the weekend of January 22 and 23. In addition, approximately $ 1,100 in prizes was distributed to player members and spectators alike.
Susan Mello was the ultimate victor in this bar table eight ball tournament. She exuded the confidence of a seasoned tournament player by capturing the title undefeated. She also captured $296 in prize money. Her road to success included wins over Sunny Cotter, Cathy Kelley, Ann Inbody, Kristin Haney and Nicole McCue.
The finals pitted two AWBT Board Members and close friends, Nicole McCue and Susan Mello, against each other. This seemed to heighten the competitiveness of the match. A first place title and prize money was at stake but most of all were the bragging rights. The exciting finale went hill to hill with Susan Mello as the resounding champion.
Nicole McCue's charge to the finals included wins over Kori Joiner, Ann Burgess, Marney Teague and Susan Williams. After posting her first loss to Susan Mello, she went on to defeat Meiko Yamanobe-Pollard, Michaele Kedanis and Kristin Haney.
Eighteen members participated in the second chance event. Congratulations to Marita Incalcaterra for taking home a first place finish and $65 in prize money. Grace Cayco finished a respectable second and took home $41 in prize money.
