Tournament Runner-Up Stacy Hurst and Winner Jenny Lee

47 ladies met up at Lazy-Q Billiards, on March 3 & 4,
for a chance to shoot in a WPBA event. Of the 47, 4
of the ladies are new to the AWBT, and 3 came from
California.
Due to freeway construction, the event started a
little later than expected but all were ready to
compete.
Racing to 7 on both sides of the double elimination
format, the final eight returning for a second day,
finished up around 1am. The eight consisted of, Stacy
Hurst, Jenny Lee, (both traveling from California),
Susan Mello, and Grace Cayco on the winners side, and
Sara Miller, Kristen Haney, Marney Teague, and Anne
Gray with one loss behind them.
Sara and Marney started out strong placing Anne and
Kristen in 7th/8th. In the meantime, Stacy and Grace
found themselves, after their first match of the day,
waiting to play the hot seat match. Susan was
victorious over Marney as was Jenny over Sara leaving
the two ladies sharing 5th/6th place.
There was excitement in the air as the semi final
matches got underway. Jenny and Susan played a tough
match that left Susan with a 4th place finish. Nice
shooting Susan! As this match concluded, the hot seat
match between Stacy and Grace was underway. Stacy’s
experience in all of the pro events she’s participated
in paid off as she claimed victory. Grace then began
her journey on the one loss side meeting up with
Jenny.
This was an exciting match that went hill/hill, down
to the last 3 balls. Jenny played the 3 balls just
right sending her off the the final match as the crowd
cheered Grace on for her fantastic 3rd place. Her
name says it all for the style she showed.
Jenny came out firing winning the 1st of 2 matches in
the true double elimination format. She also won the
first game of match 2 but Stacy followed behind
winning the second. It began looking like a see-saw
match as Jenny won the 3rd and Stacy took the 4th
game. Stacy broke the rhythm and won the 5th making
the score 3-2 in her favor. Jenny rode the 9 in game
6 to tie it up 3-3. This was one great battle going
on! Jenny revved up and soon the score was 6-3.
Stacy would have to win the next 4 games. She managed
to get one more but Jenny snuck one more 9 ball to win
the match. Congratulations to Stacy on a fine 2nd
place finish and a “Great Shooting” to Jenny for
winning the event. She’s off to another pro
event-best wishes!

In the second chance event held on Sunday, March 4th,
29 ladies returned for a race to 3 on both sides.
This event paid back to 5th/6th place.
Sharing 5th place were Mary Beth Johnsen and LeeAnn
Smith. 4th place went to Meiko Yamanobe-Pollard and
3rd place to Katie Gray.
Susan Williams met up to play Neva “Buttons” Marvich,
(traveling from California), in a possible 2 match
finals. Susan would have to beat Buttons twice to
claim victory. She managed to win the first match-my
it was getting tense in the room as both finals were
playing out at the same time. Susan showed no mercy
as she won the second match leaving Buttons in 2nd
place and claiming the second chance championship.
