Paglia sweeps state championship
|
As great talents gathered from all over the country, the Arizona State 9-Ball Championship went under way with 43 entries on March 20, 21, 1999 at the Sixshooters in Phoenix. The tour continues to thrive with a total pay out of over $1900 and a growth in the number of members and spectators.
Angelina Paglia from Tempe swept through the winnerís bracket undefeated with six straight victories to win the title. She secured 25 points, two matching custom cues by Bilancia Cues, a paid spot in a professional event, and an unpaid spot in the Billiard Congress of America event. Stefanie Nakagawa from Culver City, California won five straight matches to advance to the finals after her loss in the forth round.
Third and forth places went to Anne Gray from Tucson and Jean Vaillancourt from Phoenix, respectively, now putting them both in close contention for the overall tour title. Remember, to qualify for the regional championship title, members must play in three or more events during the season. Congratulations to all of the players for their great performances.
AWBT would like to thank Sixshooters for the tournament site, Bilancia Cues and Phoenix Custom Cues for their generous cue donations, and the participants and sponsors of our Ultimate Game Night on February 20, 1999. The proceeds from the auction as well as the games enabled us to add over $1000 to the prize fund in the State Championship. The winner of the $1000 Bilancia Cue give away was Duane Phillips of Tempe. Duane was among the many others who supported AWBT by participating in this event. In addition to the tournaments, we plan to bring you exciting social events for our members and supporters.
