R W Pockets in Tempe hosted 28 ladies for the 2nd Tour Stop of Season VII. Our thanks to R W Pockets owners and staff for a job well done Saturday and Sunday. The wait staff were friendly and prompt and the food was plentiful and good. THANKS!!!
Once all the preliminaries were taken care of and the matches were called, the players set to work. By the end of the day, Angel Paglia, Toni Officer, Susan Mello, Kristin Haney, Judi Wickelgren, Yevette Johnson, Meiko Yamanobe, and Traci Thomas were the top 8 players coming back on Sunday. It was a battle royale for all 8 ladies, with Angel putting Toni on the B side; Kristin putting Angel on the B side; and then Angel and Toni battling it out for 3rd place. Angel took that match, pitting her and Kristin in the fight for the top spot. Angel took the first match, which put Kristin in the one-loss category. The final match in the true double elimination race to 4 format was a do or die for both ladies. The matches all day were cat and mouse events for all the ladies. Kristin was the top player, winning $265.00 for her efforts.
The payouts were: 1st: Kristin Haney ($265); 2nd: Angel Paglia ($180); 3rd: Toni Officer ($132); 4th: Susan Mello ($95); 5th/6th: Judi Wickelgren and Traci Thomas ($61 each); 7th/8th: Meiko Yamanobe and Yevette Johnson; 9th/12th: Liz Bernreuter, Diana Clayton, Katie Gray and Linda McBride ($19 each).
Of the 28 "starters" on Satuday, 13 came back for the Second Chance Tournament, together with the 8 in the Main Event, for a total of 21 ladies back on Sunday.
The Second Chance Tournament, like the Main Event, was highly competitive, and when the dust settled Sunday, Katie Gray took first for $52, Diana Clayton took second for $29, and Debbie Straatmeyer took third for $14.
The final matches for first place in both the Main Event and the Second Chance Tournaments went to the second set in order to determine the winner. Kristin Haney and Katie Gray were in the "hot seat" and were successful in the second match to win first place in their respective tournament.
Again, many thanks to the R W Pockets crew for helping to make this tournament a great event.
