Rocket Takes Fourth In Nashville

Arizona's own Roger "The Rocket" Griffis made us all proud with an outstanding showing at the Camel Pro Billiards Series' stop this weekend at the Kasson Pro 9-Ball Open held at JOB Billiards in Nashville Tn. By taking fourth place, Roger jumped into 38th place in the rankings, as well as earning over $4,000 in prize money.

Roger started a bye in the first round, and then moved on to win a close one against Danny Medina (11-10), followed by wins over Ralph Carnes (11-7), Jimmy Reid (11-9) and David Smith (11-9). With four players left on the winners side, Roger lost to Mike Coltrain (11-7) only to rebound on the losers side and defeat Nick Varner 11-8.

This set up Roger to play Japan's Kunihiko Takahashi (Fourth place finisher at the US Open last week). Roger fought with everything he had but came up short 11-10 to end up in fourth for the tourney. Takahashi then lost to Reed Pierce 11-6 who went on to avenge his only loss in the tourney by beating Mike Coltrain to win the tourney.

James Ehrbar, also from Arizona, did not have as good a time in Nashville. A second round loss to Charlie Williams 11-8 was followed by a 11-0 loss to Francisco Bustamante, the current #1 player on the pro tour, after Francisco was upset by Steve McAninch 11-5 in the first round.

The next event on the Camel Pro Billiards Series is October 13-18 at the Denver Pro 9-Ball Open. Keep an eye out to see how Arizona's best perform in Denver.
