Breaking into the top 24 for the first time this year, Tang Hoa made his best showing early on with a fourth-place finish at Olathe. Hoa has played pool for only ten years, but proved he can hang with the best of them with a second place at the prestigious U.S. Open. Hoa was the first athlete to compete at the varsity level in volleyball, tennis, track and field and football (he played offensive guard, center and defensive tackle) at his high school. He began playing pool in his senior year, winning regional tournaments on the West Coast before making a national mark as the 1995 U.S. snooker champion.

Hoa works as a certified translator in the court system when his billiards schedule permits, and enjoys fishing, reading and international cuisine.
