Thursday, January 24 sees the start of the first of its kind in the nation's capital. The 2002 Capital City Classic will be held over the course of four days in New Carrollton, Maryland, just Northeast of Washington, DC. It consists of two events: 9-Ball and One Pocket, of which each event has $10,000 added prize money. The total prize fund for both events is $45,000. Mika Immonen, Nick Varner , Johnny Archer , George SanSouci , Grady Mathews , Cliff Joyner , Karen Corr , Richie Richeson , Jimmy Fusco , Mike Lebron , Jose Parica , Max Eberle , Charlie Williams and Allen Hopkins are just a few of the big names that are confirmed to participate. This event is being organized by well-known boxing promoters from the DC area, with Grady Mathews acting as technical advisor, and is intended to become an annual event.
