Chamat wins Austrian Open

Marcus Chamat

Swedish top-player Marcus Chamat showed up in form at the Stromaufwaerts Austrian Open, hosted in Patrick's Canadian Taverne in Rankweil.

With a comfortable 9-2 over Niels Feijen (NL), little big Swede came to his 2nd Euro-Tour title after the Tampere Open in 1999. At the same time, Chamat also could at least interrupt the winning-stream of the German aces, who had made the last 4 tour-stops to an All-German affair with Hohmann, Souquet, Engert and Ortmann each winning one.

And beside the winning-purse of 3.077,00 Euro, he should take a respectable portion of self-confidence with him, quite in time for the upcoming 9-Ball World Pool Championships in Taiwan.

In the overall-rankings, Oliver Ortmann took over the lead from fellow-countryman Thorsten Hohmann, who failed to reach the Last 32 in Rankweil and fell back to rank No. 6. Closely behind Ortmann, new No.2 Niels Feijen, Thomas Engert and Ralph Souquet all watch for the opportunity to enter the top.
