The top players are descending on the Executive West Hotel in Louisville Kentucky as the Derby City Classic gets underway today with the 9-ball bank competition. Coming off his big win at the Music City Open, returning 9-ball bank champion Shannon Daulton is expected to defend the title he won last year.

Not all of the players at the event will be playing in the 9-ball bank event so all of the players for the later events are not known yet. Efren Reyes backed out as he had a previous appearance he had to attend, but the Filipino contingent will still have strong representation as Jose Parica and Santos Sambajon are already in Louisville and Francisco Bustamante is another possible arrival.

As for top american players, Johnny Archer, Earl Strickland, Nick Varner and Buddy Hall are all signed up to play in at least the final 9-ball event. One pocket legends, Grady Mathews and Jeremy Jones are signed up for the one-pocket event getting underway monday.

Some of the legends of the game are also in Louisville as both Ronnie Allen and Keith McCready have been sighted at the tournament site.

The WPBA representation appears to be light as both Gerda Hofstatter and Jeanette Lee will not be appearing at the event. Allison Fisher is still a possibility.

Although, there was no mini-tournament scheduled for thursday night, tournament promoter Ed Hagan gave in to Grady Mathews requests and put together a quick 8-man, bank 9 event much to the benefit of winner Richie Richeson.

We will be posting daily updates with the highlights from each day until the event is over next saturday so check in each day to follow all the action.
