 January 4 - 12, 2002 Executive West Hotel Louisville, Kentucky As day five at the 4th annual Derby City Classic draws to a close, there are 14 players left in the one pocket event and over 200 signed up for the nine-ball event which kicks off on Wednesday. Players left playing in the one pocket event include such notables as Dee Adkins, Cliff Joyner, Shannon Daulton, Jose Parica, Corey Deuel, David Grossman, Charlie Williams, John Schmidt, Dan Wallace and the bank event winner Larry Price. Some notable results from day five include Cliff Joyner over Evgeny Stalev 3-0, John Schmidt over Corey Deuel 3-0, David Matlock over Shawn Putnam and Troy Frank eliminating Nick Varner 3-0. Johnny Archer got a jump on the 9-ball event with a win in the 9-ball mini-tournament monday night. He defeated Troy Frank in the finals for the $1000 first prize. With the number of players already signed up for the 9-ball event, this will be the largest Derby City Classic with all 3 events fielding over 200 players. |
