15th Annual Music City Classic
January 16 - 20, 2002
Job Billiards
Madison, Tennessee

Scott Frost survived two hill-hill matches to remain undefeated through a field of 86 other players and win the 15th Annual Music City Classic Open 9-Ball division. Frost started with an 11-4 win over Gary Jones Jr. and then won 11-7 over Pete Sawyers and 11-8 over Norman Wines. From there, things got a lot closer. Frost was taken to the hill by Barry Emerson before getting the win and then was taken to the hill again by a red-hot Nick Varner in the next match. An 11-9 win over Viking Tour champion Shawn Putnam and then an 11-8 win over Jason Kirkwood set up the finals where Frost would face Varner again. This time, the match was not quite as close as before but the result was the same as Frost won 11-9 for the tournament win.

Frost collected $3400 for the win with Varner taking $1650 for second. Second prize money was not all Varner collected for the event as he defeated Jason Kirkwood 11-1 to win the $500 entry, winner take all, midnight madness event. The win was worth another $4000 for Varner.

Varner and his wife Toni teamed up for the Scotch Doubles event where they lost to the team Barry Emerson and Monica Webb 5-3 in the finals. Emerson and Webb collected $1500 for first with the Varners taking $700 for second.

The ladies division saw a rematch from last year, just with the roles reversed. Last years champion Helena Thornfeldt was able to come back from the one loss side to defeat road partner Monica Webb while this year saw Webb come back and defeat Thornfeldt twice for the win. Webb collected $700 for the win with Thornfeldt settling for $500 for second.
