Saturday evening coverage

Day one at the Joss North East 9-Ball Tour event at Country Club USA is underway with 103 players fighting it out for the $7500 added prize fund. With day one almost complete, the word for the day is 'upset'. Top players are taking early trips to the one loss side and some are eliminated already.

As the day got underway, the crowd witnessed the first major upset of the day as Jay Stevens sent Earl Strickland (pictured) to the one loss side with a 9-8 score in the second round. Stevens' streak was stopped in the next round by Keith McCready and Stevens then lost his next one to Joey Kong to finish out of the money. Strickland on the other hand, has won 4 straight on the one loss side and has a match with Nick Mannino on sunday morning.

Another top player taking a quick trip to the one loss side was Jose Parica who lost to Jim Rempe in the second round. Parica won three straight before being sent to the bleachers by TJ LaFlamme who then lost to Rodney Morris on the one loss side. Rempe went on to lose his next two matches and is out of the tournament.

The field of players included two players from the WPBA and both have been eliminated without cashing. Tiffany Nelson started with a win over Mike Yamauchi but lost her next two while Nicole Mancini started with a bye and then a win over Jim McGuire before she lost her next two.

Marquee matches scheduled for tomorrow include Keith McCready vs Charlie Williams on the winners side and Tony Robles vs Santos Sambajon on the one loss side.
