Robles Gets First Joss Event

Despite some of the craziest weather in a long time, 48 players braved the condition and came to Torrington, Ct to play in Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour's 10th stop at Connecticut Billiards. Host Lou DiSilva added $2000 to the event and players like Zuglan, SanSouci, Hopkins, Robles, Hernandez , Lisciotti made up this incredibly strong field. Saturday's action saw Allen Hopkins, Larry Lisciotti and Ted Garrahan getting knocked out. Matches like Zuglan and SanSouci going toe to toe with Ginky getting out to a 6-2 lead and Mike coming back to win 9-8. At the end of the day on the Winners side was Ryan McCreesh vs Tony Robles and Mike Zuglan vs Steve Tavernier. On the one loss side of the chart was George SanSouci vs Antonio Fidelibus and Charlie Williams vs Frank Hernandez. Earning their $100 entry back on Saturday before going home was Robb Saez, Paul Rota, Lou DiSilva and Carmine Lombardo.

On Sunday they came out firing and play was a little surprising. George SanSouci played young Antonio Fidelibus of Philly, who not only resembles Ginky at that age, but plays very much like him. In their match Fidelibus came out strong and never looked back. He beat the NY Champion 9-5 and will certainly be a force to contend with in the future. Antonio got taken out by Ryan McCreesh who beat players like Hopkins and Steve Tavernier. On the winners side it was Tony Robles beating McCreesh and then trailing Mike Zuglan 8-7 came back to go to the hill and then snapped the 9 to win and wait for the finals. Zuglan beat Tavernier and then McCreesh for the winner of the left side of the chart. The finals promised some great pool with Mike Zuglan playing tony Robles. Robles who had two second place and a host of third place finishes on the Joss tour had never won. Zuglan was determined to see that this would not be his first win played tough the entire match. Back and forth most of the race to 9 saw Robles take and early lead only to have Mike come back and go ahead 6-5. Robles played great and got to 8 first. Zuglan clawed his way back to hill hill. Zuglan broke and ran to the six. Getting bad on the ball he missed the shot. Robles made the rest of them and won his first Joss event. Congratulations Juan Antonio Robles, a true gentleman and a great champion.

A great job was done by Lou DiSilva and his crew. The tour is off for the holidays and will be back in action January 6th at Pockets in Bradford, Ma. Happy Holidays to all and we hope to see you for the second half of best tour in the countries season.
