Caps Cue Club in Syracuse, NY. Dickie and Sheri Cappotto added $1500 to the purse of Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour and 72 players showed to vie for the $7260 purse. In the field were a host of great players, male and female, who on this great equipment, made this an event really exciting for the hundreds of fans who came to watch. Saturday's matches went well into the night with hill hill sets almost every flight. A few upsets like Dan Bassavich, Paul Thornley, Hari Chagaris and Cliff Thorburn not making it to the cash line. Making it through the day without a loss was, Mike Zuglan, Robbie Saez, Ryan McCreesh and Luc Salvas. On the one loss side of the chart we had, Alain Martel, Neil Reidy, Billy Lanna, Danny Hewitt, Phil Wines, Ed O'Leary, Jerry Crowe, Milt Lewis, Karen Corr, George Kotary, Mike Davis and Gary Empey.
Sunday came and along with it some great action for the folks to see. Drawing roars from the crowd was Karen Corr who beat Alaine Martel, Ed O'Leary and Cliff Thorburn from Canada, along with Mike Wallace of New York State. Corr earned a respectable 7/8 position before being eliminated by Danny Hewitt. Also getting a lot of attention from the fans was local player George Kotary. Playing well for two days George beat Milt Lewis , Danny Hewitt and Nicole Mancini. On the winners side of the chart Rob Saez beat Mike Zuglan while Ryan McCreesh knocked Luc Salvas to he "B" side also. In the match for the winners side champ, Saez played almost flawlessly all week end and easily sent McCreesh to the other side. McCreesh went to the other side and waited as Luc "Machine Gun" Salvas to take out Gary Empey and went to the hill with Zuglan. Salvas came out on top and then went though Ryan McCreesh in record time. Continuing the good play Salvas won the first match of the finals 9-6 over Saez in record time. In the second set Robbie kept his cool and played an almost perfect set. Saez only missed two balls in his 9-2 win over Luc and won the championship. This was Rob Saez's third win of the season. The beautiful Mary Cappotto memorial trophy along with the $1800 was presented to Rob by Dick and Sheri Cappotto.
The Cue Club put on one of the best events of the year. The equipment was great, the staff was awesome, the food at Cap's is second to none. Dick Abbott of Investment Quality Cues displayed almost 100 gorgeous cues to add the first class event. Thank all of you for a great tournament.
