Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour stop #5 was held at Action Billiards in Hamden, Ct. this past weekend and 67 players showed. Sal and Frank Bevilacqua added $1500 to the event and we were all treated to some great pool. the room, the equipment and the staff could not be better. Saturdays rounds saw some upsets and some great action. The field included plenty of heavy hitters like Frank Hernandez, Mike Zuglan, Jim Fusco, Larry Lisciotti, Chuck Altomare and more. Hernandez went home Saturday after loosing to trick shot champion Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman. We had 3 Trick shot experts in the field, Tom Rossman, Steve Lilils and Andy Segal. All three played great but all three finished one short of the cash line. Going unbeaten on Saturday was Chris Biddle, Bob Blackmore, Carlos Vieriea, Matt Tettreault, Robb Saez, Chuck Altomare, Scott Richardson and Tom Walter. On the one loss side we had, Marco Vidal vs Steve Tavernier, Mike Zuglan vs Pete Genovese, Steve Lipsky vs Tom Seminaro Jr.and Larry Lisciotti vs Jimmy Fusco.
Sunday at Action Billiards again showed how much great play and how tough this tour really is. The biggest suprise of the day had to be young Chris Biddle of Middleton, Ct. This 21 year old senior from UCON played great 9-ball. If you saw him warming up, you might think he was just a ball banger. But the fact is, with his unorthodox stance, bridge and his wire rim glasses, he gets out from every where. Chris beat Bobby Blackmore, Carlos Vieriea and took Robb Saez to the hill. Playing wonderful all day until he missed a 6 ball on the hill to let Saez go to the hot seat, this young man is going to be a force in the future. Saez who played great all day himself beat Fusco, Rossman, Altomare, and Tom Walters to get to the finals. On the one loss side Mike Zuglan started to show the stoke that gave him consecutive player of the year titles and beat Genovese, Tetreault, Vidal, Walters, Carlos and Chris Biddle. Always a force to be reckoned with Zuglan, who has come out of the losers bracket to win more events than I can count, was no Match for Robb Saez this day. Breaking like a sludge hammer, Saez played wonderful pool and beat up on Zuglan 9-3. Robb Saez of Bridgeport, Ct. was a great champion this day and deserved the trophy and the cash.
Action Billiards is a great room and if you get the chance check it
out. Defiantly the best pizza on the tour so far. And two of the nicest
host you can ask for.
