Leil Gay wins Viking Northfield Stop

After a summer hiatus, the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour got back into action this weekend with 54 players at Northfield Billiards in Northfield, OH.

Shawn Putnam, who becomes a favorite just by entering a Viking event, dropped a match on Saturday to Chris Szuter and was forced to play from the left side of the board on Sunday. Szuter lost this next match on Leil Gay on Saturday. On Sunday, Leil Gay dropped a 7-5 decision to Dennis Jackson from nearby Kent, OH for the hot-seat.

Gay took the loss in stride and moved over to the one-loss side where Putnam was waiting. Putnam had made his way through the one-loss side knocking opponents out of the tournament each round. Putnam's run came to an end though, as Gay won 7-5 to set up the rematch with Jackson in the true double elimination finals.

The first match of the finals went to Gay 7-4, and the second match was Gay by a landslide with a 7-1 win.

Gay pocketed $1070 for first, while Jackson settled for $700. Putnam and Ben Zimmer filled out the top four spots.

The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Fiddlestix Billiard Café next Sunday for the first stop on the newly formed Viking Amateur 9-Ball Tour. This one day event, will have $500 in added money and will be limited to true amateur players at the tournament director and room owners discretion.
