Roschkowski Grabs First Big Title

German Andreas Roschkowski had the day of his life when he won seven back to back matches to clinch his first big title.

It was Fabio Fabulous Petroni who took the hot seat in Amsterdam, after he beat Thomas Engert 11-9. The defending champion was in great shape and looked sure to take the Amsterdam Open title two times in a row. But the big surprise Roschkowski was in great shape and was nicknamed Mr. Perfect during the match, a well deserved nickname indeed. Dutch hopes Van den Berg and Feijen went down in the last stages of the tourney and finished 7th and 9th. It was left to Alex Lely to keep the Dutch alive. A great streak from Alex, beating among others, Marlon Manalo and Tony Drago ended in a loss to the winner. As the likeable Alex, who recenltly became a dad for the first time, put it: "The Man with the Hammer knocked on my door. Excuse me, are you Alex? And boom, he knocked me down."

Marlon Manalo, Tony Drago, Oliver Ortmann, Niels Feijen, Nick van den Berg and all the great Europeans were knocked out at the later stages.

The Amsterdam Open was a big succes, with a 176 participants who all enjoyed the 5 days in Amsterdam, with many mini-tournaments, poker games, concerts and so on.

Pool in Holland continues on Saturday when the World Pool Masters will land in Egmond aan Zee, when Tony Drago will defend his title.
