Yarbrough wins Fury Georgia Amateur Stop

Mitch Yarbrough, Robert Sweet (room owner) and Jim Jennings

In his second event of the season Mitch Yarbrough took home a well deserved victory in the Fury Georgia Amateur 9-Ball by battling his way through the west side of the bracket after his third match of the day loss to Floyd Reasons in a hill to hill match. The tour made its seventh stop and the last before the Season Finale at Mr. Cue's II in Atlanta, Georgia on October 2-3, 2004. The stop drew a few players but the competition was high. Players were not only playing for the money in the $500 added event but also this event was a double points for the points race to see who would rank in the top eight (8) places.

Jim Jennings opening round with James Gillespie sent Gillespie to the one loss side but Jennings real competition seemed to be 15 year old Jerry Bernhard. The match between experience and youth was a battle that kept everyone's attention as Bernhard went hill to hill with Jennings, but it was Jennings that got the last game with a 7-6 score and sent Bernhard to the west side. Bernard had another tough match up when he faced Yarbrough who sent him home with a 5-2 win.

In the quarterfinals Yarbrough faced Tony Miller in an exciting hill-hill match, which Yarbrough pulled out of with a 5-4 score. While the one loss side was battling the hot seat match between Reasons and Jim Jennings was Reasons downfall and sent him to the west side to again face Yarbrough. Yarbrough and Reasons battled over who would face Jennings again but Yarbrough proved he was in stroke as he took the match 5-2.

The final race to 9 match between Jennings and Yarbrough was a tough one with the first few games seemed to be safety plays. The first seven games was a trade off with Jennings in the lead 4-3 and then 5-3 but Yarbrough was in for the battle and focused to bring the match 6-6 to tie it up. Yarbrough's stroke was in good form as he took the next two games giving him the 8-6 lead. The next game proved how short a game can be when Yarbrough sank the 9 ball on the break to give him a 9-6 victory.

The tour would like to thank Mr. Cue's II room owners Robert and Susan Sweet who welcomed our players with a truly southern hospitality making everyone feel at home. The tournament playing area is separate and contains only 9-foot tables.
