Gulf Coast Classic Underway

The 2004 Gulf Coast Classic is underway with tournament director and promoter Grady Mathews running One Pocket, Bank Pool and 9-Ball events at the Grand Casino Gulfport Hotel in Gulfport Mississippi.

As of Thursday night, the one pocket division had whittled a field of 59 players down to eight undefeated players and a handful of players still competing on the one-loss side. Wade Crane was the first of the final eight undefeated players to move to the one-loss side after a loss to Mike Surber. Still playing on the winners side were Buddy Hall vs Ray Martin, Marco Marquez vs Josh Hilliard and Ike Runnels vs Bill Blanda. The one-loss side still had heavy hitters like Tony Fargo, Dave Grossman, Richie Richeson and John Brumback in the mix.

The banks division started with 38 players and top players still undefeated included Hall, Brumback, Runnels, Jason Miller and Jamie Ferrell. Players still on the one-loss side included Shannon Daulton, Wade Crane, Truman Hogue, Richeson and Grady Mathews.

The 9-Ball division drew 52 players and had progressed the shortest amount so far. Top players still playing include Daulton, John Schmidt, Cliff Joyner and David Grossman.
