Vilmont earns Music City Win

Chad Vilmont

Chad Vilmont has won the open division at the Music City Classic held at JOB Billiards in Madison, TN.

Vilmont, from Clinton Iowa, seemed to get stronger and stronger as the event got closer to it's conclusion. An 11-7 win over Brandon Ashcraft was followed by a dominating 11-1 win over Memphis' Blake Todd for the hot-seat.

On the one-loss side, Doug Young bounced back from his winners side loss to Todd and scored wins over David Broxson and Jimmy Reid to earn the rematch against Todd. Young made the most of the rematch with an 11-3 win over Todd and a match against Vilmont in the finals.

The finals was a true battle with any mistake by a player resulting in multiple table runs by his opponent. The first set went to 10-10 and Vilmont was on his way to finishing off the event when he missed a very makeable 8-ball. Young banked the 8-ball in and made the case 9-ball to force a second set with Vilmont. Young kept his momentum going by winning the lag in the second set and running the first two racks. Vilmont came back to tie the score at 3-3 and went on a run to take a 7-4 lead. Young fought back and got within 1 game at 7-6, but Vilmont won the last four racks for the 11-6 win.

Vilmont earned $2200 for first, while Young settled for $1500. Todd and Reid filled out the top four spots.

In the ladies division, Monica Webb scored a hill-hill win over road partner Helena Thornfeldt to take first place. The match between Helena and Monica was the 5th time in six years that these two have faced off for the tournament win. Thornfeldt had won the last two years.

Webb earned $700 for first, with Thornfeldt pocketing $450 for second. Emily Wilmoth and Allison Hardwick filled out the top four spots.

The event was held as a regional championship for the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour and was held on Diamond Tables with Champion Cloth and Aramith Pro Series Balls. Complete brackets for the open, ladies and midnight madness events are online.

Play is not complete though, as a six man $500 entry 10-ball ring game was starting up with Pooky Rasmeloungon, Scott Townsend, Shannon Daulton, David Matlock, James Walden and Jonathan Hennessee competing.
