It might now have been the storybook ending that David McCumber would have written, but it was still a great finish to the SE Open 9-Ball Tour stop at Kiss Shot Bar & Billiards in Coral Springs, FL.
McCumber's literary hero in Playing of the Rail, Tony Annigoni, looked to have this tournament in the bag when he took the hot-seat with a 9-6 win over tour director Tommy Kennedy. Kennedy earned another shot against Annigoni in the finals by defeating John Foster 9-6 on the left side of the board.
Annigoni didn't know what hit him in the finals as Kennedy scoring a convincing 11-2 win in the extended final match. "I really only missed one ball in the whole match, and I should have made that one." said Kennedy after the match. "Tony said if I had made that ball, then I would have shot a perfect 1000 using the Accu-Stats ratings." Kennedy added.
Kennedy earned $740 for first, while Annigoni settled for $600 in second place prize money. Foster and Ron Park filled out the top four spots. Emily Wilmoth was the top female player and Willie Ruben, with his 5th place finish, was the top junior player. Each player earned $50 in bonus money.
Kennedy expressed his thanks to Annigoni and Annigoni's friend Ed who were in town all the way from California and stopped by to compete in the event. Kennedy also expressed thanks to Tony Martzakis for his help to Tommy.
The SE Open 9-Ball Tour will be at Pockets in Dothan, AL next weekend for their next event.
