Middlebrooks Sweeps Field in Marietta

Jesse Middlebrooks

A small but determined field turned out at the Pool Room in Marietta, GA for the fourth stop on the Fury Georgia Amateur 9-Ball on May 21, 2005. Jesse Middlebrooks and Justyn Cone worked their way through the right side of the bracket to face each other in the hot seat match. On his way, Middlebrooks had compiled a 28 - 9 game record with wins over Steve Jennings, Jerry Bernhard, Robin Hill and Cone. Likewise, Cone's 21 - 6 record came at the expense of David Holloway, Robert South, and Vic Bagley. Middlebrooks decisively took the hot seat and sent Cone to the B side.

The hottest player on the one loss side seemed to be Robert South, who ended up on the B side at the hands of Cone. South recovered by putting together a four match run that ended in a rematch against Cone in the semifinals. Cone put a stop to South's run, forcing him to settle for a 3rd place finish. Cone advanced to play Middlebrooks in the finals but a personal issue required Cone to forfeit the final to Middlebrooks.
