Kim Shaw wins Florida State Championship

Kim Shaw

Fans this weekend at Capone's Billiards Lounge in Spring Hill, FL were treated to the season finale of the Ladies Spirit Tour and the addition to the field of a couple top WPBA stars. #9 ranked Tiffany Nelson and #17 ranked Kim Shaw took a break from following the action at the International Pool Tour's King of the Hill Invitational to join the field and compete for the $7500 in added prize money.

The story of the tournament on day one was the play of Vanessa Seaver. Often lost in the shadow of her sister Jeannie, Vanessa earned a great deal of respect on Saturday after a 7-6 win over Tiffany Nelson. Seaver's run on the winners side was cut short by tour points leader Tracie Hines.

The winners side came down to Jeannie Seaver and Kim Shaw on Sunday with Shaw taking the match and the hot-seat.

On the one loss side, Jeannie took advantage of a couple favorable rolls on her way to a 7-3 win over co-tour director Bonnie Coats. The third place finish was enough to earn Coats the 2006 US Open qualifier though.

The first set of the finals saw Jeannie take a quick 2-0 lead, but Shaw then took control and won the next four games for a 4-2 lead. From there, it was Shaw holding Seaver at bay on her way to a 7-5 win.

The tournament prize fund was bolstered by $7500 in added money from LTL Universe, Simonis Cloth and Rocky McElroy of Capones Billiards. Shaw took the lions share of that added money as 1st place paid $3285. Seaver settled for $2190 for second.
