A few upsets at the Puerto Rico Shoot-Out 2006

Corey Deuel was the victim of a first round loss to Javier Perez

Corey Deuel, Gabe Owen, and Pablo Matheu were sent to the one-loss side on the first day of the Puerto Rico Shoot-Out. Javier Perez from Puerto Rico sent Corey Deuel to the one-loss side by defeating him 7-5 in the first round of the tournament. Javi's display of the game, set-up the pace for what happened in the second round of the winners side.

Earlier in the day, Gabe Owen had faced Luis Cancel and managed to win a close game by score of 7-6. Gabe Owen was then to match against PR National Champion Alan Rolon. Rolon did not dissapoint the crowd and won 7-3 against Gabe Owen.

Another match that showed the strong game of the Puerto Rican players was the one between Pablo Matheu and Eric Gonzalez. Eric Gonzalez, another past National Champion defeated Pablo Matheu by score of 7-5.

On the winners side, Robby Saez displayed his powerful game by defeating Wilbert Ortiz and Javi Perez. Tony Robles defeated Edwin Toro and Julio Aquino. Archer dispatched Kikito Lebron and Edgardo Ramirez after trailing Ramirez during the match.

Robby Saez will now face past National Champion Juan "Papin" Rodriguez; Archer will face Enrique Montalvo; Alan Rolon will face Eric Gonzalez in an interesting match between National Champions, and Tony Robles will face Aaron "The Baron" Franken from Aruba. All matches are set to begin on Saturday evening.

At the other side, Cory Deuel, Pablo Matheu, Julio Aquino and Gabe Owen and the remaining field of players will certainly do their best to reach the final 12 spots of the 2006 Puerto Rico Shoot-Out.
