Song wins Viking Lamar Open

The Viking Cue Tour was back at The Pool Room in Duluth GA on the weekend of February 4th and 5th for the "Lamar Open" Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour event.

The event was played on 22 9' Brunswick Gold Crown IV tables with Aramith Super Pro Balls with the PRO Cup cue ball (6 red dots) and the tables were all covered with Championmship Tour Edition Cloth. The POOL ROOM was in perfect condition for this $2,500 added event. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive to everyones needs. The Viking Tour thanks everyone that made this a great event and sends a huge thank you to AzBilliard's own Lamar who graciously added the additional $500 out of his own pocket to make this a truly exciting event.

The event was a race to 9 on the winners side and seven on the one loss side. The event had 79 players with a total of 17 free entries given to women and junior players. $2,000 was added to this portion of the event.

The hot seat match came down to Paul Song vs WPBA star Monica Webb. Song came out on top of this match 9-4 and sent Webb to the one loss side of the board and a rematch with Cliff Joyner.

Webb had knocked Joyner to the one loss side earlier in the event by the score of 9-7, but this match was a different story as Joyner eliminated Webb 7-2 and earned his place in the finals against Song.

Song came out with the early 4-3 lead, but Joyner won four in a row to climb ahead 7-4. With only two more games needed by Joyner, he was forced to sit and watch Song reel off five straight games for the 9-7 victory.

Song earned $2000 for first, while Joyner took home $1200 for second. Webb and Chuck Dorsett filled out the top four spots.

The second chance tournament of the LAMAR OPEN was a $500 added tourny with a $20 entry and all entry and prize money was paid out in full. The second chance had 14 players with Helena Thornfeldt taking first and $400. Billy Tyler took second $230, Diane Gabbard took 3rd $100 and 16 year old Marcus Pendley finished in 4th place for $50.

The second chance event was played in a ring game format. The players were divided up to play on 3 different tables with the top 2 finishers from each table competing against each other for the cash and honors at the final table.
