Williams wins Florida Tour Opener

Charlie Williams

The Seminole Tribe Florida Pro Tour kicked off their 2006 season with an $8000 added event at Capones Billiards in Springhill, FL.

The field for this event was particularly strong with such notables as Mike Sigel, Nick Varner, Earl Strickland, Rodney Morris, Thorsten Hohmann, Charlie Williams, Troy Frank and Robb Saez.

With a field this strong, not all of the top players were going to end up in the money. The players finshing out of cash this time included Rodney Morris, Troy Frank and Richie Richeson. Morris was a victim to Go Takami and Thorsten Hohmann. Mike Sigel just barely finished in the money after losses to Tony Crosby and Go Takami.

On the winners side, Charlie Williams took the hot-seat with an 8-4 win over David Grossman. Grossman was only on the left side of the board temporarily as he defeated Earl Strickland 8-4 and moved back to the right side for the single final match with Williams.

The finals went to hill-hill and looked to be over with Grossman running out the final rack until a miss on the 8-ball ended his run and his chances for the win. Williams ran out the final three balls for first place.

Williams earned $3500 for first, while Grossman took home $2000 for second. Strickland and Neal Fujiwara filled out the top four spots.
