Varner takes quick Music City exit

'Mighty' Max Eberle

With losses to Mike Davis and Max Eberle (pictured), Nick Varner took an early exit from the 16th Annual Music City Open on Thursday.

Varner started with a bye and in round one, but lost a heart-breaker to Mike Davis 11-10 in his next match. His first match on the left side of the board was against Max Eberle who was still smarting from an 11-2 loss to Shannon Daulton on the winners side. Eberle ended Varner's stay in the main event with an 11-8 victory. Eberle will face Randy Vaughn on Thursday night.

The early rounds on the one loss side were sparse as the 7 inches of snow in Nashville has kept a number of players from the tournament and caused a number of forfeits.

Players still playing on the winners side as of Thursday night include Johnny Archer, Cliff Joyner, Derby City Classic Champion Shannon Daulton, Jose Parica, Viking Tour Player of the Year Shawn Putnam, Troy Frank, Marcus Chamat, Rafael Martinez, Gabe Owen and Amar Kang.

Brackets for the main event are online now and the we will have brackets from the Women's and Scotch Doubles events when they get underway on Friday.
