Anna Kostanian Wins Fast Eddie’s Olhausen Event In Lubbock

Anna Kostanian

The high winds of West Texas blew fifteen ladies into Lubbock for the third stop on the Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9 Ball Tour. Players came in from all over the southwest including Albuquerque, Midland, Odessa, Austin, San Antonio and Lubbock to compete for the queen of the hill honors.

Plenty of talent was on hand with the likes of Anna Kostanian, Kyu Yi, Kim Pierce, Michelle Abernathy, Cheyna Wigley and Toni Young among others.

Fourth place went to Kim Pierce of Bastrop. After losing her second round match, Kim kicked in to overdrive and won her next three matches from the one loss side. Great shooting!

Michelle Abernathy jumped into the third place position after winning her first two matches on the winner's side only to be sent the left side by Kyu Yi. She dominated her next two matches but again ran into Kyu for the finals of the one loss side. Michelle's quest for knowledge of the game and constant practice are reaping dividends for her on the tournament trail.

Kyu Yi of San Antonio, the current ladies point leader, plays with intensity and has a killer break that most players would die for. She started her run with victories over Diana Cardona, Kim Pierce and Michelle Abernathy before being denied the hot seat by Anna Kostanian. She, then, eliminated Michelle to advance to the finals and another shot at Anna.

Anna Kostanian, the mighty mite from Albuquerque and current touring pro on the WPBA, played in the open division on Saturday and lost to Jason Dutchover, one of the top picks, in a hill-hill match. This young lady has the whole package as she ran through the field with triumphs over Christine Wong, Toni Young, Cheyna Wigley and Kyu Yi to jump into the hot seat. She only lost a total of five games in her quest to the hot seat.

The final match between Anna and Kyu started with the ladies trading games with Kyu finally breaking away to a 6-4 lead with a great break and an easy 1-9 combo. Not to be denied, Anna quickly tied the score at 6-6. In the final game, Anna put a great safety on Kyu which Kyu kicked and missed. From there, it was a routine run out and a Tour victory for Anna.
