Kelly Fisher may be getting a reputation as a one-trick pony, but it's a pretty good trick — winning the WPBA San Diego Classic.
Fisher won the Classic for the third year in a row on Sunday, bludgeoning Jasmin Ouschan, 7-0, in the final at the Viejas Casino. Since joining the WPBA's Classic Tour in 2004, the former snooker world champion has notched three titles, all in San Diego.
“This is the only tournament I've won; this is the only tournament I can win,” Fisher told the crowd after the final, while suggesting that all Classic Tour events be played at the casino.
Austrian pool star Ouschan was looking for her second WPBA title in a row after winning the EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championship in May 2006 — her most recent appearance on the Classic Tour. But she broke dry on her first two attempts in the alternate-break format, and fearless Fisher was off to a quick 5-0 lead. The speedy “Kwikfire” finished off the match with a 2-9 combo.
Ouschan distinguished herself, however, by derailing Chinese juggernaut Xiaoting Pan in the semifinals, 7-3. Fisher flattened Ireland's Julie Kelly, 7-1, in their semifinal tilt.
For the second Classic Tour event in a row, neither Allison Fisher nor Karen Corr made the final four. Ouschan beat Fisher, 9-5, and Kelly defeated Corr, 9-6, in the quarterfinals.
