Williams snaps off Firecracker Open

Charlie Williams

With a 9-ball break in the final game, Charlie Williams defeated Rodney Morris to win the Firecracker Open, the first stop on the newly formed Florida Men's Pro Tour.

The finals were a rematch of the hot-seat match where Morris dominated Williams and won 9-2. Williams took the trip to the one-loss side, and defeated Bill Ferguson 9-4 to set up the rematch with Morris in the finals.

The extended race to 13 final, saw the players battling back and forth with neither player able to move out to much of a lead. The turning point of the match was in game 21 with the players tied at 10-10. Morris shot a poor safety attempt that allowed Williams to win the game and move into an 11-10 lead. After winning the next game to get to the hill, Williams snapped the 9-ball in game 23 for the tournament win.

Williams collected $3000 for the win, while Morris settled for $1700. Ferguson and Adam Wheeler filled out the top four spots.

The Florida Men's Pro Tour will be back in action on August 2nd - 3rd when they hold the Space Coast Pro Open at Players Billiards in Melbourne, FL.
