Kjoersvik continues AWBT Dominance

Line Kjoersvik

Twenty-nine women came to play in the AWBT’s first ever double qualifier! The first qualifier, presented by J. Pechauer Custom Cues, was a paid entry into the WPBA Generationpool.com 9-ball Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina, June 8-12 2008. The second qualifier, presented by Visual Impressions, was a paid entry, plus $225.00 for expenses, into the Western Women’s Amateur Open. This event is to be held at the Mazatzal Hotel in Payson, AZ, July 10-13, 2008. The two qualifiers combined total equaled an $800 added value to this event!

Upsets were the name of the game this weekend as many of the favorites were knocked to the B-side or knocked out early. Sunday started with a couple of new faces in the top 8! The A-side started with Susan Wilbur vs. Nina Tagley and Nicole Keeney vs. Kathleen Lawless. Nina Tagley quickly made her way to the hot seat by defeating Susan Williams, Christy Goldsmith, Susan Mello, Susan Wilbur and Kathleen Lawless. The B-side started with Susan “Madhatter” Mello vs. Holly Sholes and Line Kjorsvik vs. Kristin Haney. Line went on through the B-side beating Jeri Engh, Christy Goldsmith, Kristie Ortega, Kristin Haney, Susan Wilbur, Holly Sholes and finally, Kathleen Lawless.

Kathleen Lawless, who finished in third place, was the last woman standing eligible for the qualifier spots, so she took third place worth $145, and both qualifier spots. Her total winnings totaled $945! That’s awesome! Congratulations Kathleen, we’ll be rooting for you!

The final match pitted Nina Tagley vs. Line Kjorsvik! These two women were playing for 1st & 2nd AWBT prize money. It was a true double elimination, so Line had to beat Nina two sets, race to 7, to win. Line quickly won both sets 7-0, 7-0.

Congratulations to Nina Tagley for 2nd place and $220 in prize money and congratulations to Line Kjorsvik for 1st place and $330 in prize money! You both were very inspiring to watch!

Eleven women came back on Sunday for the 2nd chance event! Kristie Ortega won the hot-seat and Ashea Erdahl was her challenger, advancing to the finals via the B-side. This tournament was also a true double elimination format, and Ashea had to beat Kristie two races to 4. Kristie put a quick end to the match by winning the first match 4-3. Congratulations to Ashea for 2nd place and $45 and congratulations to Kristie for the win and $65!

The AWBT held a raffle for a beautiful J. Pechauer Custom Cue valued at $600! Congratulations to Kolby’s very own Skippy (Mark Baker) for winning this fantastic cue! He was so excited and we were all very excited for him! Skippy – just a tip - next time you buy a raffle ticket, you may want to have someone else fill it out for you! :) Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. We raised $193 from the raffle, and all of this money goes to help the AWBT stay at the forefront of women’s pool in Arizona.

A BIG HUGE thanks goes out to Jimmy, Doug, Dan, Sara, Skippy and all the folks at Kolby’s! They treated us SO well! We arrived Saturday to find a whole spread of healthy goodies which was such an awesome surprise! The tables are always in great shape and Dan, your chicken salad is the BOMB!

Our next tournament will be held at Alexander’s Sports Bar, May 3rd and 4th! This event will be a $500 added, 8-ball event on 7’ Diamond Smart tables, just like the ones used by BCA in Las Vegas. Great time to get ready for Vegas! The format calls for a race to your Arizona rating, minus ?? games (TBD). This is the first time the AWBT has run a handicapped tournament. It’s a fun and different twist to our normal tournaments. We’re very excited about it and we hope everyone will come out and support Alexander’s and the AWBT! See ya there!
