Kelly Fisher wins WPBA US Open; Tops Point List

Kelly Fisher

Kelly Fisher came to the WPBA US Open 9-Ball Championship on July 30th with a #5 ranking on the WPBA point list and no Classic Tour wins outside of San Diego.

The left on August 3rd with a 1st place point ranking and another Classic Tour win, this time in Oklahoma City.

Fisher's only loss in the event was a hill-hill match with Jasmin Ouschan in the third round. But it was smooth sailing after that.

A 9-5 win over Aileen Dimmick got Fisher into the final sixteen redraw and wins over Julie Kelly and Vivian Villarreal earned Fisher a berth in the final four on Sunday.

Fisher started Sunday with a hard fought 7-5 win over Jeanette Lee that saw Fisher trail early, but come back for the win.

The finals saw Fisher taking on Filipino newcomer Iris Ranola. Ranola had already scored wins over #1 ranked Allison Fisher and #2 ranked Ga-Young Kim in this event, but nerves brought her Cinderella story to an end against Fisher. Fisher already led 5-0 before Ranola could get on the board, and the sixth rack would be the only rack Ranola would win as Fisher cruised to a 7-1 win and first place on the points list.
