2008 Carolina Open One-Pocket Draws to Close; Ten Ball Jump Starts

The 2008 Carolina Open One-Pocket division began to finish up Thursday evening at 5 p.m. at Fast Eddie's Sports Bar and Grill, 1308 Parkway Drive, Goldsboro, North Carolina (www.fasteddiessportsbar.com).

Last night's action included one-loss side matches that saw a few new faces on the top end of the races.  Virginia up-and-comers, Larry Kressel and Brandon Shuff stuck it to the big guys in their matches – Mike Davis was defeated by Shuff 3-1, while Kressel did the same to Ronnie Wiseman.  Unfortunately for both Shuff and Kressel, the next round did them both in with identical scores again – this time with the guys on the losing side of things.  Shuff went down to Rabon 3-2; and Kressel lost to Abernathy.  Great tournament for both of these players!

Thursday's 5 p.m. matches started the final descent for the players – the hot-seat was won by Tony Chohan 3-0 over Sam Monday; while the one-loss side saw Scott Rabon fall to Jeff Abernathy 3-1.  Abernathy and Monday are playing now – live streaming is available at www.ustream.tv/channel/cuesportsvideo.com and will continue through the finals.

Matt Highsmith of cuesportsvideo.com will be streaming Friday no later than 3 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday beginning after 2 p.m. if you are interested in viewing the latest updates live.  Highsmith mentioned that he may be live sooner, but at the latest, will be available at the times mentioned above.

On to another event that began today and that many have been waiting on - the open ten-ball tournament.  This $200 entry event races to eleven on both sides of the board and in the finals one race to fifteen.  The brackets have been drawn and are now available here at AZBilliards.com.  The first round did not appear to produce any surprises, but some of the tops names will eventually run smack into each other.  Some in attendance, Johnny Archer, Charlie Bryant, Tony Chohan, Mike Davis, and several others that always place high in events such as Brandon Shuff, Manny Chau, Chris Bartrum, and Sylver Ochoa.

Fast Eddie's will remain open 24 hours for the remainder of the week with ten-ball play running through Sunday.  For more information contact the room directly at (919) 759-0071.
