Jason Brown Victorious in Rock Hill South Carolina (GSBT)

Jason Brown and Russ Edwards

Another great weekend wraps up for the Great Southern Billiard Tour – this time in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at Breakers Sports Bar.  Owners, Jeff and Amy Peele, always welcome the tour with wonderful southern hospitality.  This $1500 added amateur only main event saw forty-three players make their way out from several states including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

The playing field eventually worked its way down on Saturday evening and Sunday mid-day to see Jason Brown and Russ Edwards in the hot-seat match.  Although the match was quite close, Brown was able to get past Edwards with a score of 8-6 to hold the hot chair.

Working his way through the one-loss side, Norris Brady would be the man to beat on the west side of the brackets as he found himself in the quarter final with Wade Mascia ultimately.  The quarter finals were played on new Diamond Pro tables with four inch cut pockets.  The tables proved to be a challenge for the players, but Brady bested Mascia 8-6 in the end to meet up with Russ Edwards in the semis only to fall at that time in a tight set 8-5.

In the finals, Edwards made a gallant attempt at taking down Brown.  In the first set, the score was Edwards on top 8-5, forcing a second set, but when all was said and done, Brown turned the tables and ended the weekend with an identical finish of 8-5 for the victory.

This week we can't forget to congratulate the winners of the free event entries – these players landed in 9th-12th place in the main event Jeff Peele, Jeff Pate, Leonard Holmes, and Josh Newman.  Also, the second chance event that was held on Sunday had a total field of sixteen players with Josh Johnson and Dallas Roach coming out on top one/two.  Johnson took home $160 and Roach $80 for their efforts.

Saturday night the seven player ring game took place with a $100 entry, winner take all format.  Those included were Jason Brown, Brad Black, Kris Bowers, Rick Harrison, Paul Mullins, Russ Edwards, and Matt Mancini.  The final two standing wound up being Jason Brown (1st) and Rick Harrison (2nd).

Thanks to the continuous sponsorship of Nick Varner Cues & Cases, AZ Billiards, Master Chalk, Inside Pool, Tiger Products, Billiards Digest, and Professor Q-Ball.  The tour will be taking a short break to allow Tour Director Shannon Daulton time to prepare for the U.S. Open, then will return for an amateur only event at Speak Eazy Billiards in Sanford, North Carolina, November 15-16, 2008.  For more information contact Shannon Daulton (865) 850-4572.
