Webb wins WPBA San Diego Classic

Monica Webb

Monica Webb didn't have to worry about her first WPBA Classic Tour Trophy being lonely in the trophy case for long. Webb's long awaited first trophy, which she won last November, will be joined by her second trophy, which was earned this weekend at the San Diego Classic.

Webb's day started out with a match against The Black Widow, Jeanette Lee. Lee had been playing some of the best 9-ball that this reporter has seen from her in years, but Webb was never even challenged in their match. Webb took an early 2-0 lead, and then cruised to a 7-1 victory.

After Ga-Young Kim scored a 7-5 win over Gerda Hofstatter in the other semi-final match, Kim and Webb faced off for the title.

Webb came out a little shaky in the final match and fell into a quick 2-0 deficit. Webb would eventually trail 4-1 before winning four straight games to take a 5-4 lead. Kim knotted the match at 5-5, with the break advantage. Unfortunately for Kim, a dry break in rack eleven was her last trip to the table as Webb ran that rack and then proceeded to break and run the final rack for the 7-5 win and her second straight WPBA Classic Tour Title. Webb has now gone two tournaments without losing a match in a Classic Tour event.
