Kim Shaw wins MALT Tour Stop; Keeney takes qualifier

Kim Shaw

The Mid American Ladies Tour was in action over the weekend of June 6th and 7th at Borderline Billiards in Bristol, Tennessee. The field may have been small, but it was packed with talent including WPBA stars Kim Shaw and Val Finnie as well as such notables as Nicole Keeney, Lisa Davids (formerly D'Atri), Borana Andoni, Janet Atwell, Betty Sessions, Tina Hess and Chelsea Hardwick.

Saturday play completed with eight players remaining in the event. The winners side featured Kim Shaw vs Tina Hess and Lisa Davids vs Buffy Jolie, while the one loss side saw Nicole Keeney vs Dawn Fox and Katie Pagel vs Borana Andoni.

Shaw had not had an easy time on Saturday with two of her three matches going to hill-hill, but she made quick work of Hess on Sunday 7-1. Davids had a tougher time with Jolie as she won 7-6 to set up the final match.

Shaw then went on to defeat Davids 7-3 to take the hot-seat.

On the one loss side, Keeney defeated Jolie 7-6 and then moved on to defeat Tina Hess 7-3. This left three ladies still in the event; Shaw in the hot-seat and Keeney playing Davids for the qualifier. Keeney left no doubts in the minds of the fans as she crushed Davids 7-1 to win the qualifier.

With just Shaw and Keeney left, Keeney had a chance to avenge her only loss in the event; a 7-6 loss to Shaw on Saturday. Shaw however, knew that Keeney would have revenge on her mind and took complete control en route to a dominating 9-3 win in the single set finals.

Shaw earned $925 for first place, while Keeney settled for $225 and paid entry to the 2009 WPBA US Open.
