White goes undefeated on GSBT stop

Shanon Daulton, Brian White, Jeff Peele (owwer of Kylie's) and Ron Park

Brian White took two versus Ron Park to take first place in the Great Southern Billiard Tour stop on the weekend of March 13-14. The $1,500-added amateur event drew 43 entrants to Kylie's Sports Bar and Grill in Cornelius, NC.

From among the winners' side final four, White got into the hot seat with victories over Matt Reed 11-6 and a decisive 11-1 win over Park in their first of two meetings. Park had sent J.R. Post to the one-loss side 9-2 to get into the hot seat match versus White.

After victories over Doug Bartlett 7-5 and Jeff Peele (owner of the room) 7-3, it was Mark Patterson who who was Reed's first challenge on the one-loss side. Marty Free shutout Robert Ash and got by Josh Newman 7-5 to pick up Post.  Reed, with a 9-3 win over Patterson, got into the quarterfinals against Post, who ended Free's tournament with a 7-4 victory.

Post earned himself a semifinal re-match against Park with a 7-7 win over Reed in those quarterfinals (Reed needed to reach 9 games). Like Reed, Park had to get to nine games before Post reached seven in those semifinals, and unlike their earlier match in which Park dominated 9-2, Post put up a fight. They battled to double hill 8-6, before Park finished it for a second chance at White.

Park had a better showing in the opening set of the true double elimination final than he'd had in the hot seat match, but it wasn't nearly enough. White made a second set unnecessary by defeating Park in the opener and taking home the first place prize.
