Tim Edmonds came back from a defeat at the hands of the Tri-State tour's “diminutive damsel of destruction” – Annie Flores – to defeat her in the finals of the Tri-State Tour stop on Saturday, Mach 20. The $500-added, A-D handicapped event, which took some attendance ‘hits' from the concurrently-running Billiards Expo in Valley Forge, PA drew 18 entrants to Castle Billiards in East Rutherford, NJ.
After victories over Wilson Cruz and John Trobiano, Edmonds faced ChristIan Smith among the winners' side final four. In the first of their two meetings on the day, Edmonds moved into the hot seat match versus Flores with 7-5 victory over Smith. Flores, in the meantime, had defeated Mike Harrington, Glen Andaya and Ron Tarr to move among the winners' side final four, where she faced her own boyfriend, Corey Sohlman. She defeated Sohlman 6-1 and then sent Edmonds to the semifinals with a 7-3 victory.
On the one-loss side, Scott Simonetti and Rick Jaeger lay in wait for Smith and Sohlman. Simonetti had moved past Carl Sallo 7-5 and survived a hill-hill match versus Trobiano to meet Smith. Jaeger defeated both Harrington and Anday 6-5 to get into the match versus Sohlman. Smith went double hill against Simonetti before advancing to the quarterfinals to meet Sohlman, who'd defeated Jaeger 6-3. Smith got his chance to meet the man who'd sent him to the west bracket (Edmonds) with an 8-3 win over Sohlman.
Edmonds, in turn, got his second chance versus Flores with a 7-4 win over Smith in the semifinals. Momentum held sway in the extended race-to-9 finals, as Edmonds took advantage of Flores' extended time away from the table to defeat her 9-4 and take home the first place prize.
