Tiger Amateur Tour Stop 4 has its fourth double dip of the season

Roy Payton and Sonny Bosshamer

The Tiger Amateur Tour held its fourth stop of the season at Clicks Billiards in Houston,Texas on the weekend of April 2/3. The event drew a full field of 64 players, we had to turn a few away due to limited space and tables.

So the action was played down to the final 16 players whom would all cash and come back Sunday to fight it out for the top prize. So the final 16 which had 8 on the winners side and 8 on the one-loss side were as follows with match scores.

Winners side action kicked off at noon and saw Sonny Bosshamer take down Ernesto Bayaua 11-8, Jeff Chauncy got by Will Felder 11-4, Ricky Hughes squeaked by Dalton Riley 11-9, and Roy Payton outlasted Chin Kim 11-9. This pitted Sonny against Jeff and Sonny got the nod in a tight one 11-9, and on the other side Roy got the best of Ricky by a score of 11-6. So the hot seat match was set with Roy against Sonny, more on that later.

The one-loss side kicked off with 8 players on Sunday and the 13-16th round saw Victor Rojas over Noel Morin 9-7, Ty Few got by Robert Demetro 9-5, Mike Farley in a thriller over Grady Cooper 9-8, and Tommy M. got by Danny Lee 9-2.

The round of 9-12th went like this, Dalton edged Victor 9-7, Ty steamrolled Chin 9-2, Ernesto squeaked one out against Mike F. 9-7 and Tommy sent Will packing 9-2.

The 7-8th place round of play saw two matches and Ty stormed by Dalton 9-3, and Ernesto did the same against Tommy 9-5.

The 5-6th place round saw Ernesto unleash a whooping on Ricky 9-3 and the other side of the bracket was a real thriller as Ty edged by Jeff 9-8.

The next match, the 4th place match between Ernesto Bayaua and Ty Few both past winners on the tour looked to be a very tight match on paper before it started and they did not let anyone down. This match was a seesaw match the whole time and ended up coming down to the case game and at the end Ty got the nod 9-8.

The hot seat match was a great one as well as it was Sonny B. against Roy Payton , this match was tight all the way down to the end, just as was expected because these 2 play very close and in the end we saw Roy get the nod by a score of 9-8.

Now Sonny was sent to the one loss side to face the smoldering hot Ty Few , as he lost his first round and had won 9 matches in a row and looked to be the odds on favorite from here. Ty had a few unforced errors in this match and perhaps the 9 matches in a row had taken its toll on him, and Sonny B pounced on the opportunity and took it down by a final of 9-6 and earned a shot at Roy again.

The Finals: Roy Payton vs. Sonny Bosshamer double elimination. This match saw Sonny reach the hill at 10-6, and Payton would not give in, he fought back game by game to get this match notched up at 10, a hill hill thriller. Game 21 was very wild, it saw both have a chance, but the biggest suprise came when Sonny was shooting the 7 ball which looked like a routine out for him, well he juiced it up and missed it badly, the 7 and cue ball fly around the table collide in the middle of the table, and then the collision sends the 7 one way, the cue the other and he ended up dead safe behind a ball, Payton was obviously upset, but gathered himself to take his kick shot which he narrowly missed and Sonny proceeded to run out. Set 1 to Sonny.

Now the last set a race to 9, this match was for all the cheese and another first time winner on tour was going to be crowned. They played close for the first 6 games then Sonny edged clear and at the end he claimed his first Tiger Amateur Tour title with a final score of 9-6. Congrats to Roy as well for a great tourney.

The Second Chance Event had 16 players in it with $250 Added. Ten guys and Six gals entered to try and grab the cash. In the end the 2 finalist were Wendell Moser and Kyle Perry for the hot seat and Wendell got the nod 7-5. Kyle went on to eliminate Jim Walker and get a rematch with Wendell. Wendell was focused on this day and got by Kyle again by the same 7-5 score. Congrats to Wendell for snapping it off, and he earned $270 for his win.
